I couldn’t go renew my plates at the BMV today. Why? Because I can’t find my social security card anywhere.
Don’t worry, there’s no chance it was stolen. It’s here somewhere along with my birth certificate. As soon as I find one, I’ll find the other. See, last year was the year I had to renew my driver’s license and I know I took both items to the BMV with me. My social security number is not on my driver’s license, so I have to present it any time I do business with the BMV. So, I know I had it. I also know I haven’t used either document since.
No doubt it’s in a box somewhere, stashed with other papers that I was trying to get out of the way so I could do something else. *sigh*
So, I had to renew my already expired plates online. It’ll take about 10 business days for the new stickers to arrive. Please cross your fingers that I don’t get pulled over in the meantime. I promise to drive very carefully and keep the road rage to a minimum.
You could do what I do… I always know where my passport is, because it’s frames on my wall. (Actually, it’s my expired passport, open to the picture, and my current passport, closed to see the seal on the front.) Maybe I should put my Soc Sec card & Birth Certificate in there too.
I like having the passport framed. It’s sort of ‘in case of emergency, break glass’ in case I need to flee the country.
Don’t get me started on finding identification either.
I always put this kind of stuff in a safe place, but I can never remember what safe place I had in mind a that moment. . .
Maybe if I put it somewhere that was numerically significant to me
